I am a well-known lactation consultant in the Hamilton area and across Canada. I have been the lactation consultant for the Department of Family medicine at McMaster University for sixteen years and am soon to retire.
I really enjoy working with mothers, fathers and babies to help families get off to the best start possible. I am usually able to help with problems such as sore breasts and nipples , slow weight gain, and helping babies to latch. I do prenatal assessments and teaching and have assisted several mothers with adoptive nursing.
Additionally, I have done a great deal of teaching, both prenatally for mothers and their partners and for professional groups such as midwifery students and other health professionals.
I wrote the first certification exam of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and have been recertified every five years since then.
I am a member of the Hamilton Regional Breastfeeding Committee, the Hamilton Breastfeeding Coalition, the Canadian Lactation Association. I have also served on the boards of La Leche League Canada, La leche lLeague International, and the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.
In 2013, I received the ILCA/WABA Chris Mulford memorial fellowship and spent seven weeks working with the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action in Penang, Malaysia. This was an amazing experience and i am very grateful for the opportunity.
